Frequently, police personnel must purchase their own equipment. This may, however, vary by department and state. There are some departments that merely supply uniforms and small equipment, such as radios, to its personnel. In addition, there are further sources that can give any piece of police equipment an officer would need. They are expected to be well-equipped and to utilize all this equipment effectively when necessary. However, there are several departments that fall between the two extremes.

If you work for a city police department, you may expect to receive only a small portion of the resources you need to function successfully. What else? All of that would have to come out of your own money. These tiny agencies may only provide officers with limited police equipment, such as TASERs, which are similar to PBTs. With any luck, you may also receive a portable RADAR. However, because you operate in a small unit, you may be required to sign out each shift to use the RADAR.

If you work for a state or federal agency, the entire situation changes. State organizations, for instance, provide officials with a budget or credit card to enable them to purchase all they may need to fulfill their duties. Officers are supplied with sufficient police equipment, including uniforms, body armor for sale, firearms, and belt gear. For instance, there are body armor for sale that can boost a cop’s protection on the field. If there is body armor for sale at a great price, it becomes a great option when none is given from the department. Occasionally, officers may even receive additional equipment, such as tactical boots, rain gear, a computer, several radios, etc. It depends entirely on the department’s size. Regardless, it is essential for cops to be fully equipped prior to facing the day’s threat.
